Energy transition of feed barges in Iceland

Blámi has released a report on the energy transition of feed barges as part of the project “Analysis of energy consumption in Icelandic fish farming”. The project was funded by the Environmental Fund of Fish Farming and was managed by Anna María Daníelsdóttir.

The report examines the energy consumption of feed barges and proposes ways to increase the use of renewable energy and decrease oil consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Possible solutions discussed in the report include connecting the barges to shore-based electricity, using batteries, and utilizing electric fuel. The report also looks at potential areas for implementing green solutions and assesses which solutions would be most feasible given the existing infrastructure and technical capabilities, as well as the development of the industry.
